Welcome to Optimum Bodies, home of Titleist Performance Institute certified Golf Fitness Instructor and CHEK certified Golf Biomechanic James Grundy "The Golf Fitness Guy".
As The Golf Fitness Guy I get asked all the time "is training and conditioning for a golfer any different than the training I see everyone doing at the gym". Absolutely. It is very different! Golf training needs to be very functional in nature with a high level of focus on multi-plane conditioning, balance, core strength and proper muscle balance for ideal range of motion and posture.
I take a phased approach to getting golfers in the best golf shape of their lives. My approach with golfers is to address their individual needs by drawing from a variety of disiplines (resistance stretching, strength conditioning, corrective conditioning, sports conditioning, yoga, pilates, PNF and facilitated stretching) to create a program that is unique to each individual.

Optimum Bodies is especially focused on the proper corrective and performance related conditioning of golfers. There are several reasons for this area of focus. First is the the high occurrences of acute and chronic pain experienced by golfers. Statistics show that 53% of male golfers and 45% of women golfers suffer from back pain. Second, many golfers have postural and biomechanical issues that restrict them from being able to execute the perfect swing and therefore they are unable to execute a pure swing (i.e proper club face alignment, swing path, angle of attack and hitting the sweet spot). Third, many golfers are on exercise programs that are not properly designed to develop optimal strength and power as it relates to golf and therefore they are not increasing (and could actually be decreasing) their potential to generate maximal swing speed. And we all know that increased swing means LONGER DRIVES. Finally, WE JUST LOVE TO GOLF.
