“The guest wants to relax,” says Dinesh Bhaskar, Sales and Marketing Director of the five-star resort. To achieve this goal, the concept called “Platinum Plus” includes 95 percent of what guests use during their vacation. For example, holidaymakers on the island in the Lhaviyani Atoll have a selection of up to 60 types of wine, which they can sample as they please without having to file for personal bankruptcy at the end of the paradisiacal time. Snorkeling trips are also free of charge.
First 50 meter pool in the Maldives
December 15th is the big opening day of the resort on the Maldives island, which is around two kilometers long and 90 meters wide. The design by Italian-born Michele Puzzolante and his company MPD Designs consists of a combination of a five-star hotel in fixed buildings and floating, mobile mini-islands and a marina, the so-called resort.
Mixture between suites and yachts
The ten small floating islands should also be the real highlight of the project. Fully equipped with two bedrooms, living and outdoor areas, they actually dock at the resort’s circular harbor. But if you need a little more privacy, the round suites can also be maneuvered a bit through the sea thanks to the ship propulsion system. And if you want to experience the underwater world of the Maldives, you don’t even have to get wet. Each of the islands has its own access to a glass underwater room in the middle.
Those who prefer to moor their own yacht in the luxurious resort can use one of the 14 berths. The concept also provides for 20 permanent beach villas. The system runs exclusively on solar power
The entire system should be supplied with energy exclusively from solar power. For this purpose, all buildings and islands will be covered with a special photovoltaic layer that should be able to generate energy from both sunlight and artificial light. According to Puzzolante, the technology should be able to generate electricity almost 24 hours a day, and excess energy should be stored in lithium-ion batteries and accessed when required.
When and how the artificial islands will be created is still uncertain. Pozzolante puts the cost of the entire project at an estimated 145 million US dollars (about 104 million euros). In response to a request from T-Online.de, Puzzolante announced that the development of the Solar Floating Islands by the Kuwaiti Al-Bader Trading Group Corp. will be taken over. Contact has already been made with the government of the Maldives and, in Puzzolante’s opinion, construction could start soon.

Once upon a time, Maldives vacationers were satisfied with simple huts, a barbecue on the beach and the lagoon as a pool. Most holiday resorts on the islands in the Indian Ocean are now extremely comfortable, and some are even among the best in the world. However, with the demands of the guests, the space requirement has also increased. Small islands with only a few villas and a Robinson Crusoe feeling have long ceased to be a hit. “Big is beautiful!” Is the new trend in the Maldives.
“Large” is a question of relation in the Maldives
The “One Only Resort Reethi Rah “in the North Male Atoll is one of the trendsetters.” We have the largest privately owned holiday island in the Maldives, “says the German resort manager Johannes Rabl. It is two kilometers long and just 400 meters wide. That always sounds like it still tiny, but by Maldivian standards it is really big.
Rabl knows that you can no longer meet the needs of your guests on a romantic mini-island. “Reethi Raah” offers five restaurants, a diving and water sports center, sports fields, a large boutique, a spa with fitness center and, recently, even a golf simulator. “Our guests can then play the best golf courses in the world in an air-conditioned room,” explains Rabl.
Even more important to Rabl than to protect passionate golfers from withdrawal symptoms on a beach holiday is the privacy of his guests. The distance between the luxury villas with their own pools is huge. This is only possible with a lot of space and by helping nature. The island was enlarged and given shape. “Around 28,000 trees had to be planted,” admits Rabl. The holiday art world now looks completely natural. At most, the picture-perfect palm alley in the middle of the islands and coconut palm trees perfectly placed in front of the villas make you suspicious, because a hammock fits exactly in between.
Many resorts make do with water villas
Other luxury resorts that don’t have that much space on their islands switch to the lagoons. Where previously a few so-called water villas were built on stilts into the sea, there are now dozens. “Anantara Kihavah”, one of the youngest holiday resorts in the north of the Maldives, has built half a village into the water. A footbridge connects it to the island. “The big advantage is that our guests have a completely uninterrupted view of the turquoise-blue sea,” explains Resort Manager Sebnem Ayli Akyurt. From your own terrace you can go into the sea, which is always around 30 degrees, nobody comes by, nobody looks in.
Anantara Kihavah has also placed the spa and even a restaurant complex in the sea. And it’s even three-story – a novelty in the Maldives. On the first level there is a Japanese and a seafood restaurant, in which a salt sommelier serves the guests different special salts for each dish, from the pink Murray River salt from the Australian outback to smoked Pacific sea salt. There is a rooftop bar above the restaurant deck. The third level is under water. In the Sea-Restaurant you feel like you are in an aquarium. The passing fish, turtles and rays live freely in the lagoon. Sometimes a manta even comes by.
Anantara Kihavah is located in the Baa Atoll, which Unesco declared a biosphere reserve in 2011 because of its unusually large number of manta rays. “In summer we have the largest collection of manta rays in the world,” explains Yoann Sabathé. The French is a marine biologist at the Marine Discovery Center (MDC) on the neighboring island of Landaa Giraavaru.
For many vacationers, just lying on the beach is not enough
The “Four Seasons Resort Maldives” on Landaa Giraavaru is also one of the large holiday resorts in the island state, which consists of almost 1200 islands. There are also several restaurants, a huge Ayurveda spa and, as a special attraction, the MDC, financed by Four Seasons, which launched the Maldivian Manta Ray Project (MMRP) back in 2006. Since 2011, its founder, Guy Stevens, has been running it independently as the Manta Trust. It is now the oldest manta research project in the Maldives.
Between June and September, the water around Landaa Giraavaru is particularly rich in plankton. This attracts the up to nine meters long and three tons heavy manta rays. The marine biologists have now photographed over 2000 different animals for the world’s largest manta database. “Your individually dotted undersides are like fingerprints,” explains Sabathé. The researchers explain the fascinating manta rays and other animals to the holiday guests with display boards, films and on boat trips. “Our guests want more than just a beach holiday,” says Sabathé.
Lying on the beach alone is no longer enough for tourists, confirms diving instructor Tom Badstübner. The island’s water sports center, like that of the neighboring island of Kihavah, offers all imaginable activities in the water and first-class diving centers. “We now even have motorized scooters that can be pulled underwater,” says Anantara’s head of water sports, Laurent Dreyer. It used to only be found in James Bond films. That was back when a simple hut, a barbecue on the beach and the lagoon as a pool were enough for Maldives vacationers.

But we received good medical care right from the start.” 36-year-old Manuela, who can look after her stomach for two more months, would like to be on the safe side: “A caesarean section would have advantages,” she says. “That would not be so risky for the baby and I would also have everything behind me in a jiffy. A lot of people do it in the US – including celebrities.”
Main responsibility is given to medical staff
For the Bonn midwife Jantje Möhler, such concerns are typical among expectant mothers. She regrets that many women no longer approach the matter calmly enough and criticizes that it has become common today to hand over the main responsibility for pregnancy to medical staff: “Unfortunately, women today trust less and less in the signals from their bodies.
